Let’s be honest: most workshop changing rooms are freezing. You spend all day working hard, only to step into a locker room that feels like a meat locker. Most people try to fix this with standard forced-air heaters, but those are basically useless here. They just push warm air up toward the ceiling while you’re still shivering on the floor. We do things differently. We use ceiling-mounted infrared heaters. Instead of fighting the air, these units go straight for the target. Instant warmth Here is the secret: infrared doesn’t care about the air temperature. It sends out waves that only turn into heat when they actually hit something—like your shoulders or your back. It’s a completely different feeling. You can walk into a room that’s a chilly 5°C, step under the lamp, and feel that warmth hit you instantly. No more “cold shock” when you’re swapping your boots for shoes. You just feel warm. Period. Getting the setup right You can’t just throw these up and hope for the best. You have to look at your ceiling height. If your ceilings are high, you’ll need lamps with more punch to make sure the heat actually reaches the ground. We usually install them in banks so there aren’t any “cold spots” where guys are left out in the breeze. Also, a quick warning on the electrics: these things pull a lot of power. Give them their own dedicated circuit. If you try to squeeze them onto an undersized wire, you’ll get a voltage drop and your heaters will end up feeling lukewarm. A few things to keep in mind These aren’t magic, and they aren’t for every situation. Radiant heat is all about the line of sight. If you aren’t standing under the heater, you aren’t getting the heat. They aren’t meant to keep the whole room at a steady 22°C; they are built to warm up the people inside it. One last thing—these lamps get hot. Really hot. Make sure your ceiling materials can handle the heat, or throw up some reflective shields. You want to warm up your crew, not scorch your building.
