
Making Bathroom Heaters That Actually Work (And Won’t Blind You)
When you’re designing an infrared heater for a bathroom, you’re basically fighting two things: water and blinding light. First, there’s the moisture. We aim for an IPX4 rating, which is just a fancy way of saying the unit can take a splash from any angle without dying. We make this happen by sealing up the electrical junctions and using housings that don’t soak up water. It keeps the circuits dry and, more importantly, keeps the user safe. The “Blinding Light” Problem Here’s the thing about standard short-wave lamps: they’re bright. Like, really bright. If you’ve ever looked at one, you know it’s a harsh, blinding glare. That’s a huge problem in a bathroom, especially if you have kids or babies around. To fix this, we don’t just “dim” the light. We use special quartz coatings or filtered envelopes to shift the spectrum. We basically strip out the aggressive blue light and the blinding visible glare, but we leave the infrared waves alone. The result? You get all that cozy warmth without feeling like you’re staring into a spotlight. The Tech Under the Hood We use halogen-filled quartz tubes because they pack a lot of punch in a small space. Quartz is great because it can get incredibly hot without warping or twisting. And since it’s radiation, it doesn’t waste time heating up the air in the room. It warms you directly. It’s almost instant. You flip the switch, and you feel it immediately. The Trade-off Now, you can’t have it all. If you want zero light, you lose a little bit of heat efficiency. That’s just physics. Because the filters block some energy, you might need to bump up the wattage or tweak where the lamp sits to keep that “toasty” feeling. If you’re going heavy on the filters, just double-check that your power supply can handle the extra load. These are built to be simple drop-in replacements for home fixtures. Just make sure you wire them into a GFCI-protected circuit. That way, the waterproof housing and the electrical safety gear are working together to keep everything safe.
