How we make it “Smart”
Nobody wants to run around flipping manual switches in a dark alley. To get that “instant spring” feeling, we wire everything into a smart relay or a PLC that talks to your main hub. Basically, you can turn the whole patio into a sauna with one tap on your phone or a tablet. But here’s the trick: these heaters pull a massive amount of power. If you plugged them straight into a smart controller, you’d fry the electronics in seconds. So, we use a heavy-duty contactor. Think of it as a big, tough middleman that handles the heavy lifting while the smart hub just gives the orders.
The catches (and how we handle them)
Instant heat is great, but it comes with a quirk: power spikes. If you trigger ten 2000W heaters at the exact same millisecond, you’re probably going to trip a breaker. It’s a mess. To stop that from happening, we program a staggered startup. The heaters kick in one by one in a quick sequence. It balances the load and keeps your lights from flickering. And since these things are sealed tight to keep the rain out, the internal electronics can get a bit sweaty. We use heat sinks and gaskets to keep the internals cool and dry, while the infrared beam stays focused and hot.
Real-world wear and tear
These units take a beating. Between the weather and the guests, it’s a rough environment. The real win with a smart system is that you don’t have to walk the entire patio to see if something is broken. Your dashboard will tell you. If a lamp burns out, you’ll see the current drop right on your screen. Swap the tube, reset the relay, and you’re back in business. Simple.
